TV Advertising in a Nutshell -
A primer for small business owners.
What are the costs?
Production costs depend largely on the quality and difficulty of the production, and can range from a thousand dollars for a bargain basement cable TV add to well over $100,000 for just an average national television commercial. For most local or regional businesses, production costs should fall in the $2 to $20 thousand range.
The Media Buy again can range from a few dollars a spot on late night cable, to millions for a super bowl add. What kind of buy you need can really depend on the message you are trying to get across. For small businesses, Cable TV offers the opportunity to inexpensively pick and choose your audience (e.g. women who watch Lifetime, sports fans who watch ESPN). Broadcast TV gets you in front of more people, and delivers more cache, but costs more as well.
