11/9/2005 - Heimat 3: Chronicle of Endings and Beginnings at MFA

The MFA Film Program and the Goethe Institut Boston are proud to present all six episodes of Heimat 3: Chronicle of Endings and Beginnings, the most recent volume of Edgar Reitz’ epic German television production, December 2-17. Edgar Reitz and his wife, actress Salome Kammer (who stars in Heimat 3) will both be present for the screenings of episodes 5 and 6 on Dec. 16 and 17. On both days there will be a Q & A session.

Edgar Reitz was born in 1932. He grew up in the Hunsrück and, after finishing school, studied German literature, journalism and drama in Munich. He has been involved with literary works, avant-garde music, literature, the fine arts and film since the mid-1950s. He made his first films in 1958, was a member of the “Oberhausener Group“ who founded “Young German Film“ in 1962 and declared “Papa’s Cinema“ dead. Together with other young directors he founded the Film Institute at the Design College in Ulm the following year. His first feature film Mahlzeiten appeared during this time and was honoured as best debut film at the Venice International Film Festival in 1966. Numerous feature films, documentaries and experimental films followed, which received international acclaim and several awards. In 1971 Reitz founded a production company in Munich, which has since produced both its own projects as well as films by other directors. Since the mid-1970’s Reitz has published a number of books on film theory and film aesthetics, as well as narratives, essays, poetry and the literary versions of his films.

9/16/2005 - NEW CALL TO ACTION ON PRODUCTION TAX LEGISLATION

(editor’s note: we are posting this announcement as a service to members of the Mass. Production Coalition. Please do not mistake this as an endorsement by VisualBoston for this course of action.)

Dear Members of the Massachusetts Production Community:

Progress is being made in our efforts to pass a Massachusetts Tax Incentive Bill. Here's what's happened in the last two days:

On Wednesday, the 14th, the Senate Ways and Means Committee reported out their own version of a tax incentive bill (Bill 2187), WHICH IF PASSED AS IS WILL NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE IN BRINGING TV & FILM WORK TO OUR STATE.

On Thursday, the 15th, Senate Bill 2187 went to the Senate floor for a vote. Sen. Jim Timilty tabled the bill to allow the MPC and our industry to build support for MUCH NEEDED AMENDMENTS (introduced by Senators Creem and Timilty) that would add key elements that have been ENDORSED BY MOTION PICTURE STUDIOS, LOCAL PRODUCERS AND LABOR and are vital if we want to make Massachusetts competitive with other states.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 20th, the Senate will convene, and Senate 2187 with the Creem/Timilty amendment will be presented for a vote.

Call your State Senator to support Senate Bill #2187 WITH THE CREEM/TIMILTY AMENDMENT! Then send the MPC a return email (mpc@crewstar.com) to let us know that you've made the call.
